This week our task was to summarize the poem Waltzing Matilda by Banjo Paterson. We unpacked the literary devices and language. Banjo Paterson was one of Australia’s best poets who wrote some of the best poems. The main idea of this poem was to explore about what life was back then in the 1880’s. This poem tells us about a swagman who finds it hard to apply for a job then one day steals a Jumbuck from the billabong. In this Task Haylee and I defined a few words that we found in the poem that we didn't know.
Definition:
- jumpbuck - sheep
- swagman - seasonal worker
- billabong - waterhole
- troopers- policemen
- waltzing - walking on foot
- Matilda - swag bag
